"Walk Don't Run"

We were working the late shift at the 911 center one cold
October night.... We received a call that someone had
struck a pedestrian on the highway about a 1/2 mile
east of the light. They were not familiar with the
area so we were still talking with them getting a
landmark when the caller yelled the pedestrian had
been struck again.
We dispatched the fire department and ambulance to the
scene. We had called Syscom to check availability for
the helicopter in case it was needed. When the OIC
radioed back that the situation was 10-1 (OK) they
had a priority 4 (fatal) "scarecrow" in the roadway.
Someone's dressed up Halloween decoration had just
been run over. With a sigh of relief and a chuckle we
called and cancelled the helicopter.
